Hillary Clinton Inadvertently Breaks Pop Culture Ceiling With Lil Wayne Reference At The DNC

On Thursday night, Hillary Clinton made history at the Democratic National Convention with a speech that rallied millions of Americans ... to buy “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba on iTunes.

For months, the presidential hopeful has been inadvertently filling the British one-hit-wonder's coffers by recalling the band's most famous lyric “I get knocked down and I get back up again” to reference the tumult in her decades-long political career.

I'm here to tell you tonight - progress is possible,” the former Secretary of State told the crowd Thursday. “I know because I've seen it in the lives of people across America who get knocked down and get right back up. And I know it from my own life.”

Pop-culture-savvy viewers almost immediately identified the familiar phrasing and took to Twitter to see whether they heard Clinton correctly or if drinking a whiskey drink, a lager drink and a cider drink might've impaired their memory.

The references didn't stop there, however. Fans of Lil Wayne were also taken aback when Clinton appeared to allude to the “Young Money” rapper's mixtape “No Ceilings” and song “The Sky's the Limit.”

Rejiggering her famous line about breaking gender barriers in her 2008 concession speech, she said, “When there are no ceilings, the sky's the limit.”

Twitter delivered yet again with hilarious musings on how her language made Clinton and the rapper strange bedfellows - and the very pressing need for a mixtape collaboration.

But the only permission Clinton really needs is from Lil Wayne himself, right? Luckily, TMZ caught up with the rapper after the speech to get his thoughts on matter.

“I f**ks with Hillary,” he said after a reporter informed him of the coincidence.

And so do we.
