Bobby Brown gets candid about the death of his daughter Bobbi Kristina in a new interview with Robin Roberts on "20/20."
Brown admits he and his late ex-wife, Whitney Houston, failed their daughter, who died at the age of 22 in July 2015 following an extensive hospitalization.
"We could have been better. We should have been better," Brown said in the interview, which airs on Tuesday.
Houston and her daughter died three years apart, but the similarities between their deaths were almost eerie. Like her mother, Bobbi Kristina was found in a bathtub and the medical examiner's report later determined that she died from a combination of immersion in water and drug intoxication.
“It's not a mystery to me,” Brown said. “The same thing that happened to my daughter is what happened to Whitney."
But Brown won't shoulder all the blame for his daughter's death. He points to the person he sees as a link between Houston and Bobbi Kristina's deaths -- his daughter's boyfriend Nick Gordon.
"He knows what happened," Brown told Roberts. "I don't know what happened that night. But he does."
No criminal charges have been filed against Gordon in connection to Bobbi Kristina's death, but Brown recently joined a $10 million wrongful death suit, which accuses Gordon of giving Bobbi Kristina a “toxic cocktail” and putting her facedown in water.
This past September, Brown previously addressed his guilty conscience on "The Real," telling the show's hosts, "If I could have been there two days before, it wouldn't have went down like that."
Brown's interview on "20/20" airs June 7 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
