Skier Angel Collinson Plunges 1,000 Feet In Alaska... And Lives!

This is why she's one of the best skiers in the world.

Angel Collinson was skiing in Alaska's Neacola Range last spring and shooting the film "Paradise Waits" for Teton Gravity Research when the snow shifted to ice. She slipped and plunged more than 1,000 vertical feet -- yet somehow escaped without any serious injury.

"The fall was absolutely terrifying -- without question. You have no idea what you are going to tumble over and there is basically nothing you can do but hang on," the 25-year-old said in a news release.

Collinson, who in December became the first woman to win POWDER magazine's "Best Line" award, described the fall last week on "Good Morning America."

"At first I was trying to slow myself down with my arms, but then once I started picking up speed I realized that I was going to be falling for a while and the snow was icy and there was big icy snowballs," she said. "As I was tumbling, I covered my face and protected my head with my arms and I kind of just held on until I stopped."

Collinson suffered only two jammed fingers and some bruises.

"Being the badass that she is, Angel came out unscathed," Teton Gravity Research wrote in the description of the YouTube clip. "But the footage will leave you wondering how she escaped without injury."
