Brandy, Fantasia, & Boyz II Men Pay Tribute to Babyface at Soul Train Awards

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds received an all-star tribute at the 2015 Soul Train Awards, which were taped in Las Vegas and aired Sunday on BET. After being presented with the Legend Award by L.A. Reid, the R&B icon was joined by Boyz II Men, Fantasia, Brandy, Bobby Brown, and Tevin Campbell to perform some of his classics.

With Babyface at the piano, Campbell kicked things off with “Can We Talk,” followed by Brandy, who delivered her Babyface-produced hit “Sittin’ Up in My Room.” Fantasia belted out soulful covers of Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and Karyn White’s “Superwoman.” Bobby Brown and Babyface dueted on “Roni,” while Boyz II Men sang “I’ll Make Love To You” and “End of the Road.” Babyface, whose new album Return of the Tender Lover drops Friday, closed things out with 1989’s “Whip Appeal.”

During the ceremony, Jill Scott was also presented with the first-ever Lady of Soul Award. Following tributes from Usher and Whoopi Goldberg, Scott wowed the crowd with a medley of hits including “Back Together,” “Long Walk,” “It’s Love,” “Golden,” “Cross My Mind,” and “Whatever.”

The Weeknd was among the big winners, taking home Best R&B/Soul Male Artist and Album of the Year, while Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars scored Video of the Year and Song of the Year for “Uptown Funk.”
