Watch Sevyn Streeter’s Acoustic Video for ‘Just Being Honest’

Sevyn Streeter is “Just Being Honest.” Nearly two months after dropping the music video for “Love in Competition,” the singer-songwriter has released her second acoustic performance off her latest EP, Shoulda Been There Pt. 1.

The colorful visuals for “Just Being Honest” show Sevyn and guitarist Chris Payton performing the stripped-down track in a bedroom. Overlooking a beautiful view, Sevyn sings about her ex in an intimate and relaxed setting.

“Loved strippin ‘Just Being Honest’ down with just a guitar,” she tweeted. “Feels so good when your ex tries to come back around.”

Fans searching for new music from Sevyn should be excited. The singer is currently in the lab with the likes of Jeremih, Dave East, and Tory Lanez, among others.

She has also been working outside of music. Her first feature film, Ringside, was just completed.

What message, exactly, is LSU sending Ben Simmons?

Ben Simmons, the exceptionally talented LSU big man who is considered by most a lock to be the first overall pick in this June's NBA draft, was punished on Saturday for what his coached Johnny Jones described as "academic stuff." Simmons is a first year player and this will be his only year in college, a result of rules that are still in search of a coherent justification. As an impending one-and-done, one of the pressing questions that arises is what incentive, if any, he has to go to class in this, his final semester at the university (students become ineligible at the end of a given semester, not during it).

So, what was the punishment? Jones didn't allow Simmons to start LSU's tilt against Tennessee. Simmons did come in four minutes into the game, and played the rest of the way, scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds in an 81-65 loss. Simmons played the entire game once his "punishment" was over, so he ended up logging 36 minutes. In case you were wondering, Simmons has averaged 35 minutes a game over the course of the season. Talk about bringing the hammer down.

Former long-time coach and current analyst Seth Greenberg came on Mike and Mike today to try to explain/defend LSU's handling of Simmons. Greenberg, who I enjoy as analyst, can be painful to listen to when he's in collegiate-model defense mode. (Then again, who isn't?) He said that it was important for the coach not to treat Simmons differently than other players on the team and that sitting Simmons for those four minutes "sent a clear message."

Greenberg then went into a convoluted digression about how coaches deserve more credit for teaching their players valuable life lessons beyond the classroom.

When you're using unpaid rental players to boost your money-making enterprise, I guess these are the kinds contortions to which you resort. So even if the kids aren't really getting anything approximating a meaningful education, Seth Greenberg assures us that they've still gotten something useful out of college because he taught them where to put their fork on a place mat (listen to the clip. You'll see what I am talking about). Greenberg also tried to direct some righteous indignation toward those who say Simmons obviously doesn't - nor should he have reason to - care about school. It's true that Simmons himself hasn't said that. But does Greenberg really want to try to claim with a straight face that he'd be there if not for the NBA rule barring 18-year olds from playing their league?

And for all the talk about teaching life lessons, accountability and doing things the right way, have the Seth Greenbergs of the world ever considered, for even one solitary second, the impact of the blatant cynicism and deceitfulness to which they're exposing these youngsters, and how that might shape their still-developing sense of right and wrong?

White College Students Who Put Bike Lock Around Black Student's Neck Avoid Hate Crime Convictions

Three white students at California's San Jose State University skated by with only misdemeanor battery charges after putting a bike lock around a black student's neck, attempting to lock him in a closet and referring to him as "three-fifths" of a person, among other harassments that a jury ultimately concluded were not hate crimes.

On Monday, Joseph "Brett" Bomgardner, 21, was convicted of misdemeanor battery along with his accomplices, Logan Beaschler and Colin Warren, both 20, Mercury News reported. A jury of six men and six women were deadlocked on hate crime charges.

The crimes took place in 2013 when the three assailants forced Donald Williams Jr., a 17-year-old freshman at the time, to wear a U-shaped bike lock around his neck. In another incident, prosecutors said, the three men tried locking Williams in a closet, according to NBC Bay Area.

The bullying only came to light after Williams' parents visited him and noticed a Confederate flag hanging up in his shared dorm suite, along with racist phrases including "three-fifths" written on a white board there, according to the Associated Press.

The flag belonged to Beaschler, who testified in court that it was displayed as a symbol of states' rights, according to Mercury News. A swastika and other Nazi symbols written on a dry erase board were simply political satire, he argued.

Attorneys for the defendants said the abuse was nothing more than a "prank war" that was "immature" and went too far. But former Judge LaDoris Cordell, head of San Jose University's task force on racial discrimination, disagreed.

"I am saddened that 12 jurors could not agree that calling a black male 'Three-fifths' or 'Fraction,' or forcing a lock around his neck, or creating an environment promoting racism with Confederate memorabilia, or hearing how this young man was humiliated, amounted to a hate crime," Cordell, who is black, told the publication. "This verdict demonstrates that we are a long way from living in a post-racist America."

Of the 12-person jury, not a single member was black.

Colorado Avalanche Take on the Detroit Red Wings in Stadium Series Matchup

Colorado will hosts the Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field in the NHL Stadium Series this weekend. The three-day festival begins on Thursday with a private skate at the temporary rink and on Friday the much-anticipated alumni game will entertain fans with many of the best Avalanche and Red Wings players from 1996-2001. And in the main event, rookie star Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings face off against Matt Duchene and the Colorado Avalanche at Coors Field home of the Colorado Rockies Saturday night.

The Red Wings and Avalanche became division rivals during the 1995-96 season, when the Quebec Nordiques franchise moved to Colorado. The clubs met in the conference semifinals or finals in five of Colorado's first seven seasons, and the Red Wings are the Avalanche's most-played playoff opponent. In 2014, Detroit moved to the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division following realignment, while Colorado remained in the Central Division.

Tune in Saturday night on NBC to see who of the former rivals takes home a win and if you predicted right on Sage.

Face-to-Face with the President

2016-02-23-1456255104-6327390-RashadWHhuffpo.jpg

Last Thursday, I woke up, put on my favorite suit and brought the voices, stories, and demands of ColorOfChange members to the President of the United States of America.

Along with other civil rights leaders, I visited the White House to meet with President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, Senior Advisor Valarie Jarrett and several members of the President's team. I went to represent the ColorOfChange members and Black folks who have been calling for action from the executive branch - the President and the Department of Justice - on a wide range of criminal justice and police reforms. I went to the meeting because their voice has made ColorOfChange unignorable. I accepted the invite knowing that no single meeting or gesture changes power - but the work to organize, agitate and amplify must continue and increase. I went with belief that presence alone isn't power - it doesn't change written or unwritten rules - but presence is important to building power. And without outside power, our movement has no leverage. I went to the meeting understanding that any elected official despite their politics, inspirational backstory or good intentions has to be pushed and challenged. That is how we make democracy work.

During the 90-minute meeting with the President and his staff, I reminded him of ColorOfChange members working to fight the race-baiting attacks against him and his family during the 2008 election, our two-year corporate campaign that led to the firing of Glenn Beck (our campaign forced over 200 advertisers to pull their support from the Fox News show) for Beck's racist attacks on the President and his consistent on-air racism. However, I spent the majority of my time urging the DOJ to use its power to deal with the civil right violations with money bail that kept folks like Sandra Bland in Texas and Kalief Browder in Rikers Island in the hands of the state.

I spoke about our work around district attorney and prosecutor elections (the President responded by saying that it was a very smart strategy - I welcomed him to bring his voice to this work). I talked through our current and upcoming campaigns on private prisons, prison labor and all the other structures that incentivize mass incarceration and directly asked the President to help us elevate the connections between money in politics and mass incarceration. I spoke about the need for culture change and our growing work in Hollywood to change images and perceptions because in less than a year President Obama will be a powerful person with a big platform and some free time. I also let him know that we had some challenges with the federal legislation on criminal justice reform; I made it clear that while we respect the desire to "get something done," the amendments being batted around would do more long-term damage than good.

This was my first time sitting face-to-face with the President to ask questions and share ideas. He is a person who has inspired me and many ColorOfChange members and represents progress and change; a man we have both supported and ran campaigns where he was the target. In the Eisenhower room where the meeting took place were some friends to ColorOfChange and some leaders and organizations that we've been at odds with publicly on issues like Net Neutrality and corporate influence. At ColorOfChange, we value our independence and haven't spent a lot of our time in endless meetings on Capitol Hill or in government offices. We've worked to build the type of people-powered campaigns that rely more on our strategy and members than our money and connections.

Last week we accepted an invitation to sit across from the President of the United States and talk about the issues we've been raising for years. Nothing about last Thursday changes the ongoing work we must do to challenge and change the conditions that incentivize mass incarceration and police brutality. We went into and left the meeting, clear that we can not let up on the work to elevate the voices of Black folks and our allies through campaigns and advocacy that force those in power to respond, listen and act - to translate our presence in the world into the power that changes it.

VH1 Is Rebooting 'America's Next Top Model' Because 22 Cycles Just Wasn't Enough

"America's Next Top Best Friend" is back! Oh wait ...

Sorry, when an opportunity for a Jade GIF presents itself, we rise to the occasion. #Guilty

The reality TV show that introduced words like "smize," "booty tooch," "dreckitude" and "pot ledom" into our cultural lexicon, as well as instilling unhealthy body standards and career aspirations in your middle-school self, is officially back in business.

VH1 announced on Tuesday that the network is reviving "America's Next Top Model" for 14 new episodes, according to Variety. Tyra Banks will remain involved with the production, ditching her hosting duties to executive produce full time -- yes, that means you'll have to memorize the cadence of an entirely new elimination speech.

"We could not be more excited to bring back and breathe new life into one of the greatest unscripted franchises on television," Scott Koondel, chief licensing officer for CBS Corp., said in a statement. "VH1 is the perfect partner for this new endeavor and we hope this is the beginning of a long relationship."

The reinvented 23rd cycle will be set in New York and have an entirely new panel of judges (JADE 4 JUDGE 2016), in hopes of appealing to the next generation of "Top Model" fanatics. There's no premiere date at this time, but expect to be introduced to a new slate of models you'll never hear about again once the show is over sometime in 2016.

"This is a homecoming for the series," Chris McCarthy, VH1's general manager said. "VH1 helped catapult the show to cultural icon status as the first cable network to air the show after it launched.”

So, how are we all feeling?

Dante Fowler -- Breaks Silence On Fight Video ... I Am Embarrassed & Apologize

Dante Fowler says he is "embarrassed" over the TMZ Sports video showing him refereeing a fight between his baby mama and his girlfriend ... saying he has "apologized for my actions to everyone involved." Here's his statement in full: "I am…

Natalie Dormer Is Pretty Much Done Defending 'Game Of Thrones'

As the Jon Snow dead or alive debate rages on, an even more important conversation (trust us, it's possible) about representational responsibility in television has thrust "Game of Thrones" into the hot seat for its depictions of sexual violence on screen.

Natalie Dormer, who brings scheming seductress Margaery Tyrell to life on the HBO series, however, is done defending some of the fantasy epic's most controversial scenes.

Juxtaposing the real-life violence screened on news channels around the world with what we see on "Game of Thrones" every week, Dormer told The Sunday Times, "All I know is that I turn on the news, and it’s covering a boy drowning off the coast, or children being shown beheading videos."

"The horror of human nature is prevalent in our world, and I appreciate that some people want to turn on the telly for escapism -- but if that’s what you want, don’t watch 'Game of Thrones,'" she continued.

Although "Games of Thrones" exists in a fantasy world, Dormer sees the series as an important space where some of the most pressing issues of our time can be explored.

“I choose fantasy to vent, to process complex political, sexual and social politics at the safe distance of fiction," the English actress explained. "For me, that’s what art should be.”

"I find parts of the show difficult to watch, but I don’t think we do young people any favors by sheltering them," she added. "I can't -- as Natalie -- defend everything Margaery does, as that’s not my job."

Dormer may have bowed out of the debate for now, but that doesn't mean the "GoT" powers that be haven't been receptive to the criticism of a controversial rape scene in the Season 5 episode “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.”

Jeremy Podeswa, the episode's director, told reporters in December that the series creators, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, “were responsive to the discussion and there were a couple of things that changed as a result."

"It is important that (the producers) not self-censor," he said. "The show depicts a brutal world where horrible things happen. They did not want to be too overly influenced by that [criticism] but they did absorb and take it in and it did influence them in a way.”

Kanye West’s ‘Pablo’ Doubles TIDAL Subscriptions

TIDAL can thank Yeezy. Fresh off the release of Kanye West’s latest album, The Life of Pablo, the global streaming service has experienced a significant financial boost.

According to TMZ, TLOP has been streamed more than 100 million times since the album was unleashed a little less than two weeks ago. Not only is this a record for the streaming service, but it’s also more than doubled the amount of TIDAL subscribers—from 1 million to 2.5 million. This could total up to at least $15 million in additional revenue, the report says.

TMZ’s source also claims that a physical Life of Pablo drop could be on the horizon, but that’s yet to be seen. For now, though, the album’s TIDAL success won’t amount to success on the charts.

“Billboard has been informed that TIDAL is not currently reporting streams for tracks on Kanye’s album to Nielsen Music,” said Billboard’s vice president of charts and data development, Silvio Pietroluongo. “Therefore streams from TIDAL for this title will not contribute to Billboard’s chart rankings at this time.”

Earlier this month, Kanye said he would never sell the album. “My album will never never never be on Apple,” he tweeted. “And it will never be for sale… You can only get it on TIDAL. Also all Good Fridays songs will be on TIDAL. Me and Kendrick got 40 songs and me and Young Thug got 40 songs. 40/40 club!!!”

'How I Met Your Mother' Hid A Brilliant Joke You Never Noticed

Think you know everything there is about "How I Met Your Mother"? To that, Barney would say, "Challenge accepted."

Not too long ago, the Internet became privy to the fact that there was a deeper meaning to Tracy and Ted's song, "La Vie en Rose," and now another realization just might blow your mind.

Imgur user  points out that it all happens in Season 9, Episode 12, "The Rehearsal Dinner." In one sequence, the group is making fun of Robin for suggesting that she and Barney get married in Canada. After a few jokes, Robin says, "Two mitten jokes in a row, so you're pretty much done then?"

Ted's voiceover says, "Kids, we weren't even close." And to prove just how long they were making Canada wisecracks, the writers hid something legendary in the background. Wait for it ...

Yup. "HIMYM" pulled an "Up"!

In just seconds, we get one couple's entire life story. (Let's call them Carl and Ellie.) They start on a date, he proposes, she's pregnant, their son graduates and the guy dies.

Wow, that's a lot of Canada jokes. (And they didn't even show the part where the guy attaches a bunch of balloons to his house.)

In mere hours, the post had nearly 100,000 views and countless compliments. But no one put it better than one commenter who said the poster is "pulling ... it ... off."

Fairfield Students Don't Understand Why 'Ghetto Party' Was A Bad Idea

Fairfield University said Monday it is investigating a "Ghetto Party" thrown at an off-campus beach house over the weekend, but some students are questioning why anyone's upset to begin with.

The university, a Jesuit school in Fairfield, Connecticut, offered few details except to say its administration and diversity office are looking into reports of a "culturally insensitive party" hosted by students. Fairfield officials told the Connecticut Post they are "working to understand the details."

Fairfield University junior Iman Jebara told Fox 61 that some of her friends attended the party. She described one photo from the event showing a woman with a ball shoved under a white tank top to mimic a pregnancy, with a caption asking who the "daddy" was.

But some have responded by mocking concerns about stereotypical costumes, according to screenshots of conversations among students on Facebook. In one post, one student wrote, "I wore a hot dog costume to this party and now feel that my actions have caused emotional harm to all of the hot dog community. Specifically I would like to apologize to Mr. Oscar Meyer as I did not mean to portray your weiner in a negative fashion."

According to Fox 61, another student wrote, "I am offended that the ghetto party was turned into a race issue. I know plenty of ghetto white people. #whitelivesmatter, #ghetto&proud."

"It's like Halloween, where I'm dressed as a gangster. Nobody said anything then," student Brian Mason told the Connecticut Post, adding that he had dressed that way as a 4-year-old.

A university spokeswoman told The New York Times that 78 percent of Fairfield's full-time undergrads identify as white.

Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, the university's president, said in a letter to the campus Monday that the party's theme "perpetuated racial stereotypes that have no place in our community and only serve to offend and devalue people." He added that a student forum will be planned for later this week to discuss the incident.

Duggar Family Returns With New Show On TLC After '19 Kids And Counting' Cancellation

TLC just can't seem to part ways with the Duggars. The family's reality series "19 Kids and Counting" was officially canceled by the network in July, but now sisters Jill and Jessa are set to return in their own show, "Jill and Jessa: Counting On."

The new series follows a three-part special of the same name that aired in December. The sisters' show will focus on their lives with their husbands and children, and will include appearances by multiple Duggar siblings, according to Us Weekly.

The decision to bring the Duggars back to the network doesn't come as a surprise since "19 Kids and Counting" was TLC's most-watched series. In August, Discovery Communications revealed it lost about $19 million after they axed the show following Josh Duggar's confession that he molested five underage girls, including his sisters, when he was a teenager.

Despite the controversy surrounding the family, more than three million people turned in to watch the three-part special focused on Jill and Jessa. In January, TLC's executive vice president and general manager Nancy Daniels said the network was "still talking and considering" more episodes focused on the sisters, but hadn't made any decisions. Daniels went on to say the high ratings showed that their audience "clearly cares" about the sisters.

Racist Tweets Apart of Boston Public School Investgation of #BlackatBLS

On January 18, 2016, two charismatic Boston Latin School students posted a YouTube video, launching phase one of a movement to voice the concerns of their school club, Boston Latin School's Black Leaders Aspiring for Change and Knowledge. In the video, BLS B.L.A.C.K. president, Meggie Noel, and active member, Kylie Webster-Cazeau, directly address BLS administration and call for a twitter conversation #BLackatBLS where current students and alumni expose the unheard experiences of students of color at BLS.

According to the Boston Globe, Boston Public Schools announced an investigation on the students claims to have submitted a "binder full of evidence" to their administration which included racist social media posts from white BLS students in the wake of the non-indictment of Darren Wilson for killing Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. BLS administration's failure to properly and efficiently address these concerns in November 2014 has culminated into a citywide protest titled "BlackatBPS" where students from all Boston public schools are demanding to be heard.

A few tweets from the evidence are posted below:
