Ne-Yo relives some childhood magic in the video for his cover of Disney’s classic “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin. The original is a jazzy ode to friendship from the genie’s point of view. Here, Ne-Yo channels Robin Williams with a pork pie hat, a wide smile, and a hint of magic. He flits around a mansion, making chairs fly around a room and creating puffs of smoke in his wake. We even see a few clips of animation from the original 1992 movie.
His remake will appear on Disney’s We Love Disney compilation, which also features covers from artists including Jhené Aiko, Jessie J, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, and Jason Derulo.
Ne-Yo, who is expecting his third child with fiancée Crystal Renay, recently performed in front of President Obama at the China State Dinner at the White House.
