In April 2017, Tupac Shakur might become the sixth hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. On Tuesday, the institution released their longlist of 19 nominees for potential inclusion. Tupac made the list in his first year of eligibility.
To be considered, artists and bands “must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination,” according to Hall of Fame's rules. Tupac released his debut single, “Brenda's Got a Baby,” in Oct. 1991.
Along with Tupac, the Hall of Fame also gave Pearl Jam a nomination in their first year of eligibility.

Now that the Hall of Fame has chosen this list of nominees, “an international voting body of more than 800 artists, historians and members of the music industry,” will choose who actually gets inducted, according to a press release.
Until Dec. 5, 2016, you can also vote for who you think should be inducted. The five artists with the most fan votes will get an extra consideration for inclusion into the Hall of Fame next spring.
