Kanye West might have had a contentious relationship with the paparazzi in the past, but that seems to have changed. Not only did Yeezy stop a fight between paps last month, but now Pablo says he’s grateful for them in an interview with a paparazzo.
“I really appreciate you guys because you guys keep me alive,” Mr. West told X17 Online while being dropped off at LAX by his wife Kim Kardashian. “You, the paparazzi, keep me alive because they keep me relevant. They can’t stop my voice. They can say what they want on the news channel, on the stations, blah blah blah, but I can just talk directly to you, it go up and my voice not get stopped.”
Yeezus isn’t just thankful for the paps, however. He also thanked Kim Kardashian and her fam. “I really appreciate my wife and her family for supporting me,” he said, “especially in the past two-three weeks where people are really like, ‘Oh, he must be going crazy.'”
Watch the rest of the interview, where ‘Ye discusses his deadmau5 beef, hypocrisy allegations, and Steve Jobs.
On file sharing: “I don’t really have an opinion on it…I think human beings are hypocrites sometimes. It’s funny because it’s obviously not my computer. I took a picture of it in the studio and then everybody was like, ‘Don’t put that up. Blah blah blah.’ I was like, ‘Let it go up. Let people…’ I mean, no one’s… The irony that that was a site that downloaded a million of my albums… I have this new rap where I say, ‘a million illegally downloaded my truth over the drums.’ You know what? People have different methods. I like having TIDAL because I could just go to Rihanna’s album easily. I could go to the new Beyoncé single very easily. The service is easy to use and it sounds really good. I didn’t realize how easy it was to get music until I downloaded a streaming service. But I think there’s people in the music industry, as you saw with the deadmau5 thing, where he actually said that he used it before. So, the reality is, I think people in the music industry hypocritically download sounds and shit like that. They’ll download certain types of plug-ins, apps, blah blah blah. I mean, I’m talking to the…That’s true.”
On his goals: “I really want to help the world. I really want to do something to apply my skill set. Exactly what I do when I make my albums, the skill set when I make my shoes. I want to apply that to something more than something that’s just gonna make me money.”
On Steve Jobs: “That really was my idol. He made my lives easier in some way. I know you might see me right now as a celebrity or superstar or whatever and think that superstars are self-absorbed or whatever, but if you think about it, most of the times that I got in trouble, I was going on stage on someone else’s [behalf].”
On Kim Kardashian and her family: “I really appreciate my wife and her family for supporting me, especially in the past two-three weeks where people are really like, ‘Oh, he must be going crazy.’ It’s so funny. All people got was truth, truth, truth. So if someone is considered to be crazy for telling the truth, or their truth, over and over, what are we dealing with the rest of the time? What are we being fed the rest of the time?”
